About Dr. Smith
Dr. Kevin Smith is an obesity medicine physician and ABOM diplomate with a strong passion for obesity medicine, board preparation, and teaching. He previously served as an academic physician for five years, during which he helped establishe a multidisciplinary medical/surgical obesity medicine program and held various leadership roles, including Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, Associate Program Director, and Course Director for Clinical Medicine.
During his preparation for the ABOM examination, Dr. Kevin Smith found it challenging to locate high-quality, up-to-date questions that reflected the exam's key topics. To bridge this gap, he combined his passion for teaching and board preparation to create Obesity Medicine Board Review Questions.
Dr. Smith has an extensive background in board review education, serving as the director of one of the largest preclinical board review question banks in the country for the past five years and as a question author for three years prior. He recently contributed a chapter, "Hormones of Obesity Care: PYY, Ghrelin, GLP-1, and GIP," to Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Examination and Board Review (McGraw Hill). Additionally, he has had the privilege of working alongside leading experts in obesity medicine in an academic setting.
Since the first edition of Obesity Medicine Board Review Questions was released in 2020 with 150 board-style questions, the resource has evolved significantly. In 2023, Obesity Medicine: Practice Tests was introduced to provide additional rapid-assessment-style questions to reinforce core topics. By 2024, these high-quality questions were converted into an online Q-bank format at ObesityQbank.com, offering a test-simulation experience.
The latest 2025 edition reflects major updates, incorporating the latest practice guidelines, metabolic and bariatric surgery updates, FDA-approved treatments, and exam-taker feedback. Dr. Smith is currently an internal medicine physician in South Dakota, where he practices obesity medicine, primary care, inpatient care, and consultations as part of a multi-provider group. He is married to his active and supportive wife and enjoys spending time with their three daughters and two very spoiled dogs.
